Van Baker is a Research Vice President for Gartner's Application and Software Engineering team. He covers Cloud AI development services including natural language, vision and automated machine learning services. He has worked with companies looking to build conversational AI strategies focused on deploying customer and employee facing virtual assistants and chatbots. In addition, he has led a number of design thinking and user-experience workshops. He covers UX development and tooling and contributes to Gartner research on inclusive design. Mr. Baker is also active in the Digital Workplace community covering the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of work. In the Far Horizons research community he is exploring what enterprises will need to do in response to climate change.
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Baker worked in the computer and retail industry for more than 20 years for such leading companies as HP and Computer Intelligence, where he was responsible for product marketing and distribution channel promotional programs, as well as distribution channel research and consulting. While with HP, Mr. Baker was a marketing manager responsible for the implementation of product marketing campaigns and channel programs for HP's Personal Computer Group.
