Mentions of diversity, equity and inclusion — sometimes shortened to “DEI” — on S&P 500 earnings calls have increased 658% just since 2018. What’s more, nearly nine in 10 Fortune 100 companies list equity as one of their corporate values. We’re making progress on this topic, which is critical to both business and our society, but we’ve got a long way to go.
In the first episode of a three-part series on one of the most pressing issues of our time, guest host Rob O’Donohue, a Senior Director, Analyst in Gartner's CIO Research Group, sits down with Chris Steadley, Gartner’s Global Head of DEI. The two discuss the changes they’ve seen over the past few years, especially in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and movements for social justice, who is ultimately responsible for DEI, and what progressive leaders are doing right — and where they can take steps to do better.

Chris Steadley | MVP, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Chris Steadley serves on the Global HR Leadership Team as Managing Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Prior to moving into the DEI role, Chris was a Senior Managing Partner in Gartner Consulting, where he worked from 2013 to 2020. Chris joined Gartner as a Senior Account Executive in 2012. Outside of Gartner, Chris serves on the Advisory Board of Center for Global Business at University of Maryland, the Board of Directors for Ingenuity and as a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow.
Rob O'Donohue | VP Analyst
Rob O'Donohue is a Vice President Analyst in Gartner's Executive Leadership Research Group focusing on Leadership, Culture, Talent, and DEI. Here, he advises Executives on the Future of Work, hybrid work design, culture change, solving talent challenges, advancing leadership effectiveness, how to create of high performing teams, and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization. Rob creates evidence-based actionable research to empower Executive Leaders lead more effectively. Rob is the research lead on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Executive Leaders. Rob also runs workshops and client briefings covering Future of Work concepts, overcoming talent challenges, culture, leadership, how to avoid common DEI mistakes, and coaching effectiveness. Rob holds is a certified Executive Coaching with the ICF and uses his experience to help executives to think differently and challenge their own assumptions about work.
